Do the books have to be read in order?

It is better to read the books in order as while each book has its own plot which is resolved within that book, the books are a series following the same characters and their relationships grow and change. The books also have and overarching plot that builds and develops over the series.

When is The Hidden Rune of Iron coming out?

The Hidden Rune of Iron is due for publication in 2020 (UK and US - exact date to be confirmed). To all my readers who have been waiting so patiently for such a loooong time for this, the last book in Genny's story (but hopefully not the last book set in the Spellcrackers world) I'm so sorry for the super long wait. I do hope you will enjoy the conclusion (for now) of Genny's story when the book does finally get here. Thank you for asking.

Are your English language books available outside the United Kingdom?

All the books are available to puchase from good online retailers. The English language editions of the books are available from The Book Depository with free worldwide delivery.

back to questions

Are there Kindle, ebook, or audio versions of your books?

Yes there are Kindle and ebook versions as appropriate. These are available on the same publishing schedule as the print books, which means that kindle/ebooks for the US editions will only be available as the books are published in the US.

Currently there are no audio versions of my books.

back to questions

Are the US Editions the same text as the UK Editions?

Yes they are, right down to the British spelling and punctuation.

back to questions

Are the Spellcrackers books paranormal romances or urban fantasy?

The Spellcrackers books are urban fantasy. There are elements of romance in each book, but romance is not the main focus of the books’ plots.

back to questions

When can I read an excerpt of the next book?

Excerpts for the next book in the series will be available to read on the website as soon as my publisher gives permission. This is normally about a month/six weeks before the book is due to be published in the UK. You can find them from the main books page under the appropriate title.

Can you sign my books?

I can - if I am at an event/signing (check the events page for details) I am always happy to sign books.

Or if you have a Kindle, then you can request a Kindlegraph here

Can I have a copy of your books to review?

Please email me on the contact page to request a review copy.  Review copies are usually only available in the 3 – 4 months leading up to a book’s release. Please be advised that review copies are likely to be e-copies only. Please provide the URL to your review site in additional comments. Thank you.

How did you get started writing?

I started writing back in 2003. At the time I didn’t have a clue how to write, so I joined a local ‘Writing for Beginners’ class. It was the best thing I ever did. Not only did I learn all the basics, but I started getting immediate feedback on my work – we had homework each week to write 250 words – and had to read it out loud for everyone else to comment on (which was about as nerve-wracking as you can get). I also joined the Online Writing Workshop, and read lots of books on ‘How to Write’.  More details of things I found helpful are on the ‘For Writers’ page.

Where do you get your ideas from? Are your characters or books based on real life?

Everywhere, anywhere.  I love documentaries, and myths, and history and finding out how things work. My mind always seems to find an idea in almost anything I watch, or see, or hear, and I'm constantly 'trying ideas on for size' to see if they'll fit into my current plot, or another one. And once I’ve even dreamed a whole book, although I haven’t written more than notes for that one yet.

I don't base my characters or books on real life, apart from one time when my best writing buddy asked to be a character in my first book. You can read about it here.

I want to be a writer. Can I send you samples of my writing or tell you about my ideas?

Unfortunately, I'm sorry but I can’t look at any samples or ideas, so please don’t send me any as they will be deleted unread.

I want to be a writer. Can you give me writing advice or tell me how to get published?

Unfortunately no. I'm sorry but I can’t give out individual advice, but please have a look at my page 'For Writers'.
